12 imagesCoach Kovalenko and sailors Mat BELCHER and Will RYAN (AUS) fulfilled their task today to keep the chain of wins in their new campaign onto Rio 2016 unbroken, and put a crown on the 2013 season by winning the 470 World Title. Kovalenko raises performance and excitement in the Olympic Sailing Sport, written with capital characters, as his achievements add great value to the comparison of Olympic Sailing with other World Sports such as Soccer, Swimming and Tennis as an example. After 6 Olympic Gold medals and 15 World Titles, one might think that success knows an utter limit set by nature. Not for Kovalenko! His magic seems to be far from over since his new recruited 2016 Olympic Gold potential wins event after event, and Kovalenko has achieved his 16th World Title today, and without any doubts, more to come. The only crew that might have endangered the Australian 2013 World Title victory was Greece’s Panaglotis MANTIS and Pavlos KAGIALIS. Although a first time World Title opportunity may give an athlete huge power, the Australian experience, kept them tight, with a final result to let the French, Pierre LEBOUCHER and Nicholas LEBERRE in between to claim the silver medal, and let the Greek with silver.

14 imagesLondon 2012 Two Person Dinghy Gold Medalists Jo ALEH and Polly POWRIE fetched the 2013 Women's 470 World Title today after a convincing win in the medal race. Great disappointment for French Ladies Camille LECOINTRE and Mathilde GERON who did so well during the entire event, but fall next to the podium on minor points because of a bad race yesterday, and finally a failure to stay in front of Xiaoli WANG, Xufeng HUANG (CHN) in today's medal race. The Chinese women take the bronze medal and leaves France with a 4th overall rank. New talent to raise the performance of Rio 2016 routed Women's Olympic Two Person Dinghy sailing. Austria’s ISAF Youth Worlds Champion One Person Dinghy 2010 and Two Person Dinghy 2011, Lara VADLAU, has teamed up with experienced 470 sailor Jolanta OGAR. VADLAU represented Austria with crew Eva-Maria SCHIMAK at the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition in the women’s 470, and ended 20th. Remarkable results have been recorded since she formed a pair with OGAR. The highlights: a bronze medal at this year’s European Championships, and the silver medal today at the Women’s 470 Worlds 2013.
